Bellamy returns to Tondc to find out Clarke has volunteered to go as their inside man to Mount Weather. After he helps her escape he all but avoids the details of their mission…
Bellarke AU → Clarke Griffin is sent to the ground with the other 99 delinquents from the Ark with the suicidemission to get to Mount Weather and see if the earth is ready to be inhabited by humans once again. Except they are about to find out some humans never left.
→ Bellamy, a grounder warrior, is sent by his commander to investigate these new inhabitants. With strict orders to eliminate any and all threats.[part I of ??]
When one stands up, his eyes
widen, “That’s Cage!” he says, pointing to the figure. “And that’s—”
He freezes.
Clarke.
Even on a black and white
screen, he can see her curly hair. “No,” he breathes.
“Was Abby right?” Raven asks,
looking up at him. “Does she work for Mount Weather?”
“That’s impossible.” Bellamy
says, shaking his head. “No, no. I would’ve known if she was a Mount Weather spy.”
“Then explain why she is
sitting, having dinner with Cage instead of being locked inside one!” Murphy
shouts, smacking the screen so it glitches.
“Hey!” Raven exclaims. “Easy on
the technology.”
“Can you get audio?” Bellamy
asks. “Can you pick up what they’re saying?”
Bellamy can’t believe it. Even
as Raven types furiously, he doesn’t believe it. Cage is clearly speaking long,
but Clarke’s too small to see her expression.
But all the signs point to yes.
She’s in clothes he doesn’t
recognize, plates in front of her with her hands in her laps. She barely moves
as Cage paces.
y’all ever think about how monty and harper went through this insane shared trauma in Mount Weather that no one else could ever really relate to because they were the first two abducted and drilled for bone marrow
and how he understands her in this unique way and knows how to comfort her
and then in season 3 they handle recovering from this trauma differently with monty clinging to safety and defense while harper has this newfound sense of justice for all people, leading to two differing ideologies that throw them on opposite sides
and monty spends all of season 3 so utterly not fine and then harper spends all of season 4 so utterly not fine but they always pull each other out of the darkness
i think i finally get why the 5x09-5x13 bellarke drama- specifically, clarke being the angry/disappointed one was so jarring for audiences.
this isn’t really a comment on who’s in the right on any fight/drama scene, as i usually understand both sides, but moreso a look into why people viewing were so taken aback by clarke’s actions.
it’s because it hadn’t happened before.
we all know bellamy AND clarke get shit on like there’s no tomorrow throughout the series. for bellamy, a majority of the time it’s octavia, with some raven, murphy, jasper, and even a little bit of monty/harper mixed in (though quite minuscule).
but once bellarke have established a relationship, a friendship (so, discounting early s1 where they’re antagonistic), clarke never uses anger or blame to get through to bellamy. i think this could be a result of her viewing how convoluted his relationship with octavia is and how that relationship sort of sits on a foundation of blame, and therefore clarke is trying to avoid heaving more of that on his shoulders, especially after she has a good idea of how much he blames himself in day trip.
at the end of s1 when bellamy and clarke are disagreeing, clarke pleads and tries to convince him, but never yells or tries to guilt him. in s2, clarke has a cool anger (mostly at the world) when she sends him into the mountain, but the anger is clearly never directed at bellamy.
when they meet again in s3, bellamy is the emotional wreck, with all the (understandable) anger about clarke’s leaving and him having to carry the delinquents on his own and the massacre at mount weather. and when that’s resolved, even though bellamy has these sins on his shoulders from his decisions in s3, like killing the grounder army, clarke never uses it against him, never attacks the way octavia does. she chooses to forgive instead, and they work on this path of forgiveness with each other. in late s4 when clarke closes the bunker, again, it’s bellamy’s turn to be mad at clarke, for shutting his sister out, the one person who means the most in the world to him.
so finally, when we get to s5, we’ve never had a scene where clarke is angry at bellamy. it’s always the reverse. and this isn’t obvious at first glance because people are mad at both clarke and bellamy all the time, but if we just narrow down to how the two of them look at each other, bellamy is usually the one who’s angry, at least on the outside, and this makes sense with his character being the more emotional and “heart”-driven.
that’s why it shocks everyone when clarke makes her choices in s5. screaming when bellamy chipped madi, leaving bellamy in the pits, for essentially doing what clarke did in 4x11. it’s a result of the “head-heart” role reversal in a sense, and if you didn’t grasp onto those character changes, the 5x09 scenes might leave you reeling, despite her having just as must justification for her anger as bellamy does for his in s3/4.
